As AI becomes embedded in project delivery, project managers find themselves accountable for a new category of risk: the ethical, legal, and reputational consequences of AI systems that are biased, opaque, or non-compliant. This course gives PMs a practical grounding in AI ethics — covering how bias enters AI systems through training data and model design, how to conduct a basic bias audit, and what human-in-the-loop controls look like in a project context. Participants also get a plain-language overview of the EU AI Act and other emerging regulatory frameworks, and learn how to assess where their projects fall within applicable risk classifications.
The second focus of the course is governance — building the structures, documentation, and review processes that make AI use in projects auditable and defensible. Participants learn how to embed ethics checkpoints into project plans, draft an AI use policy for their team or PMO, and engage sponsors and clients in honest conversations about AI's limitations and risks. The course includes a governance toolkit with templates for ethics impact assessments, AI disclosure statements, and a project-level AI risk register that integrates with standard risk management processes.
